Guided Meditation - An easy way to relax and be creative!

Why Meditate?

Simply put, the practice of meditation allows your brain to make new connections. Studies have shown that the amygdala, which is the 'reactive' part of your brain, actually shrinks with regular meditation! Since the amygdala is in control of your fight or flight response, then reducing the amygdala will lead to reducing stress.

Most important, when our amygdala is activated we have trouble accessing the pre-frontal cortex of our brain. The pre-frontal cortex is in charge of thinking, reasoning, logic, and problem solving. Therefore we have a really hard time resolving conflict once the amygdala has taken over. Surely if we can condition our amygdala to chill out, then we will feel a greater sense of peace!

For instance, reflect on the last time you were in conflict. What parts of your brain do you think were activated? Were your responses driven by logic and reasoning or emotion? Did you retreat and lash out, or were you calm and open? How would you like to be when in conflict?
